TOP 5 REASONS TO COME WINGFOILING IN STAVANGER DURING END OF SUMMER

We want to give you some insights on why you should be choosing Stavanger as your next destination for your upcoming wingfoiling trip.

  1. Warmer waters - No gloves, hoodies or thick wetsuits

The water around the coast of Stavanger and Jæren have heated up during the long summer, giving warmer conditions in the water for the end of summer. It's not a secret that the water often tends to be a bit chilly in the middle of summer. If the northern winds have been strong, upwelling tends to happen giving ice cold water from deeper waters. During the end of summer, the winds ofter blow from the south giving warmer water, and more comfortable conditions to ride in. Wetsuits are needed, but no gloves and shoes. Riding in 4/3mm wetsuits are perfect during this time of year.

  2. More reliable winds - Check the wind forecast from Windguru.cz

The wind during August to October tend to be blowing more often and stronger than June and July. A more active North Sea giving more wind and waves is a pleasure for many, both kitesurfers, wingfoilers and even surfers. The North Sea tends to throw some big storms in the mix also, a few days can be giving wind strengths up to 45 knots of wind. Which can sometimes might be a bit too much if you lack experience and the right gear. Are you planning on coming? Bring your smallest wing, and if you don't have one, maybe think of buying a 2,5m!

  3. Great variety of spots - Waves, fjords, flat water & more..

The southern winds open up for a lot of wingfoiling a long the coast and inside the norwegian fjords. With the perfectly angled coastline of Jæren, the south and north winds blow perfectly along the coast with sideshore conditions. If the wind goes offshore from the southeast, get yourself into the fjords and start exploring! There are some great spots as Sømmevågen, Hafrsfjord, Gandsfjorden, Askjesundet, Rennesøy and if you are planning a trip to Preikestolen, you might find some wind in Lysefjorden, if lucky. 4. Great waves - The surfers coastline of Jæren

The wave rich coast of Jæren is mostly known for surfing. But with great surfing spots, also comes great wingfoiling spots. Over 35 known waves along Jæren open up for some fantastic conditions on different wind directions and swell directions. Even though some spots are for more experienced riders, many spots can be reached by beaches, or launching from local harbors and if the swells are too big to go out from land. On the more normal days with swells averaging 1,5-2,5m you can find some great areas to go on downwinders and score great runs in the windswell that has been built up by the wind! Rocky point breaks are also known in this area, which give great wave riding conditions on foils. One of the best spots for Wingfoiling all year round is Refsnes:

  5. SBF Watersport festival - At Sømmevågen / 17-18 August

The SBF Watersport Festival at Sømmevågen, just by walking distance of the airport of Sola if happening from the 17th-18th of August. A great event if you want to meet the local community of wingfoiling and windsurfing in Stavanger. There are plenty of activities and races happning during the weekend. So remember to keep those dates in your calendar! Races in the fjord, downwinders on the coast, and we can't wait to be a part of it!
