ABOUT THE SNOWKITING COURSE AT HAUGASTØL
At the snowkite course at Haugastøl, located next to Hardangervidda, halfway between Oslo and Bergen, we have been organizing kite courses for several years. Hardangervidda's reliable wind and snow conditions, combined with its frozen lakes, make it a mecca for snowkiting and learning to snowkite.
With 10 years of experience in courses on both snow and water, our experienced instructors will ensure that you get the most out of your course. All kite equipment is included in the course fee, all you will need to bring your own skis or snowboard, and clothing suitable for outdoor activities.
Here’s a preview of what to expect on the course:
Friday: Theory at 8:30 PM
There will be an indoor theory session on Friday evening at Haugastøl Tourist Center. We will talk about course expectations, weather forecasts, practical information, distribution of harness/kite equipment, and cover basic theory. You can order homemade pizza at Haugastøl before the theory session starts if you need a snack after the drive up to the mountains.
Saturday: Outside Haugastøl Tourist Center at 9:15 AM
Meet, dressed and ready, at the parking lot outside Haugastøl at 9:15 AM for a joint departure to the day's spot. This day will focus on theory, kite setup, kite control, safe launching and landing of the kite, and more. If participants’ level and wind conditions permit, you may begin using skis/snowboards during the day. The day ends back at Haugastøl Tourist Center around 4:00 PM.
Depending on the conditions, the days can be longer if your energy levels are high enough and conditions are good!
Sunday: Outside Haugastøl Tourist Center at 9:15 AM
Meet, dressed and ready, at the parking lot outside Haugastøl at 9:15 AM for a joint departure to the day's spot. Sunday is used to continue where you left off on Saturday. Some may need more practice with the kite before using skis/snowboards, while others will practice riding back and forth, turning, and crossing upwind & more. We tailor the day to participants' levels and provide guidance. The day concludes back at Haugastøl Tourist Center around 4:00 PM.
